Der Installer f�r die MS C++ Redristributable Libraries wurde aus dem Installationspaket entfernt. Links zur Quelle wurden auf der Download-Seite hinzugef�gt.

Falls Sie englische Fehlermeldungen w�nschen, kann in pk_mpi.ini "Lang=us" hinzugef�gt werden.

The emebedded Installer for the MS C++ Redristributable Libraries has been removed from the installation package. A link to the source has been added on the download page.

If you like english error message, you may now add "Lang=us" to pk_mpi.ini

Don't play with the network while a calculation job is running. This might cause a crash. Our program communicate via network sockets.

Andere Software
Beachten Sie, dass Programme wie ScreenSaver, AntiVirus Software und viele andere Programme die Geschwindigkeit einer Berechnung negativ beeinflussen k�nnen.

AUSTAL Einstellungen
Andere Faktoren sind nat�rlich die Eingangsdaten, wie z.B. Daten die vdisp.exe (K�hlturm etc) ins Spiel bringen.

Arbeitsspeicher
Stellen Sie sicher Ihr System hat genug Arbeitsspeicher. Falls Ihr System oft auslagert vergr��ern Sie den Arbeitsspeicher, denn das Auslagern bremst die Berechnung total aus. Falls Ihre Festplattenkontrolle h�ufig an ist, �berpr�fen Sie, ob Ihr System h�ufig auslagert. Ich habe gesehn, dass austal2000 manchmal 230 MB benutzt und das mal die Anzahl der Cores plus das was das System selbst braucht sollte als physikalischer Arbeitsspeicher vorhanden sein. Leider k�nnen 32Bit Windows-Systeme nur 3GB Arbeitsspeichers adressieren!!! Im Falle bei der Berechnung wird mehr Speicher ben�tigt, kann nur eine reduzierte Anzahl an benutzten Cores helfen. Im Task-Manager kann unter Prozesse eingesehen werden wieviel Arbeitsspeicher pro AUSTAL2000 benutzt wird.

(Wir pr�fen hier nach verschiedene L�sung, um diese Problem zu umgehen)

Dienste
Schalten Sie unn�tige Systemdienste ab. Ich halte den Indexing Service f�r unn�tig. Der Task Scheduler sollte auch nicht laufen. Man kann auch verhindern das bei NTFS die Zugriffszeit, bei jedem Dateizugriff aktualisiert wird.

Plattennutzung
Halten Sie die Plattennutzung unter 80% der Kapazit�t, da es dar�ber erheblich langsamer wird.

Other Software
Note that programs like ScreenSavers, AntiVirus software and others can have a negative performance impact on a calculation.

AUSTAL Settings
Other factors are of course the program settings, but especially settings which cause vdisp.exe (cooling towers etc.) to get involved.

RAM
Give your system enough RAM. I've seen austal2000 using 230MByte of RAM. Now multiply that by the number of cores and you can estimate the amount of RAM you need in addition to what your system is using. If there is not enough RAM available, your system will start to swap and that will decrease performance significantly. Watch the disk access light. If that is on often, check if your system is swapping and if so put in more RAM. Note that 32Bit Windows systems can address only 3GB. We are looking for a way to bypass this problem, but until then one can only reduce the number of used cores. One can check the memory consumption of AUSTAL2000 in the Task Manager under Processes.

Services
Disable unneeded services. You probably don't need to have the indexing service on. You could turn off that your system updates file information on every read of a file. You may turn of file access time updates for NTFS file systems. You should turn off the task scheduler if you don't use it.

Disk usage
Disk usage shouln't go over 80% as that makes disk access significantly slower.

Da gab es ein Problem, wenn das Programm vdisp.exe von austal2000 benutzt wurde. Vdisp.exe wird nun in die Arbeistverzeichnisse der jeweiligen austalMPI Prozesse kopiert, wo sie nun ohne sich gegenseitig zu st�ren arbeiten k�nnen.

Alte Protokolldateien werden nun in austal2000.N.log und taldia.N.log umbenannt, wobei N die n�chste freie Nummer ist. So wird vermieden, dass alte Fehlermeldungen neuere Rechnungen beeinflussen.

Austal2000.txt wird nun nicht mehr in .austal2000.txt umbenannt und auch nicht in dem Arbeitsverzeichnis modifiziert. Unsere austal2000.txt werden nur in die ergnnmm-Verzeichnisse gespeichert. Dieses ist auch damit abgebrochene Berechnungen keine Probleme erzeugen.

Hinweis: Im Falle das eine Rechnung abgebrochen wurde, bleiben die ergnnmm-Verzeichnisse erhalten. Dieses ist damit man evtl. Probleme untersuchen kann. Die ergnnmm--Verzeichnisse m�ssen von Hand gel�scht werden, wenn an der Stelle eine neue Berechnung vollzogen werden soll.

There was problem due to the usage of vdisp.exe (cooling towers etc.) VDISP.exe is now copied to the working directories of austalMPI, where they can communicate with each austalMPI without interference.

Old log files are now renamed to austal2000.N.log or taldia.N.log where N is the next available number. This is to avoid confusion with error messages in old log files.

Austal2000.txt is no longer renamed to .austal2000.txt and not modifed in that working directory. Our version of this file lives in the ergNNMM directories only. This is also to avoid problems when austalMPI or taldiaMPI was interrupted.

Note: In case a calculation was interrupted or crashed, ergNNMM folders remain in the working directory. They are left there for analysis, but need to be removed before a new calculation can be committed in that folder.

Our new program will enable users to read austal2000 and taldia log files in English. This should be of great help to international users who are using austal2000 or products, which embed austal2000.

The first version is to be release before March 2008. Its proposed name is P&K austal2000 translator, which might be shortened to P&K AT2trans or so.

P&K TAL2K uses an older translation system, which was formed from log samples and not from the austal2000 source code, like the new translation system. P&K TAL2K will be updated to use the new translation system in the future.

What a weird name. This companies name is Alcohol Soft. Yeah well ... what is it?

This is a cdrom emulator and also does some cd copying in different formats.

I am pretty mad about some software I bought a few years back. How can one be so annoying and require a cd to be present all the time in order to make a quick information lookup? I won't buy anything from that company anymore.

Anyhow, my idea was to use Alcohol 52% to be able to make look ups when ever I feel.

Installation of Alcohol 52% was easy. Be warned, it might install yet another browser toolbar, if you don't uncheck that during installation. During installation one had to reboot one time. Thereafter I took that cd and started the new toy. I had to create cd images four times with different settings until my software did recognize this virtual cd properly. I was about to trash this program, but now I am happy that I don't have to do the DJ anymore.

I did use it for a few days now and can say that my impression did not become better. The program produces too many false positives and too many false negatives to be of much use.

I need a program to replace the very very old HotMetal Pro HTML Editor.

I've tried some, but let me say something about phase 5 Version 5.5.

This is a very nice editor and you could get into details, but it fails for a few requirements that I have.

I didn't find a spell checker for English and worst of all, no WYSIWYG mode for longer text entries. A website is not only code, but also content and I need to be able to write content with a minimum set of functions like Bold and Italic and an automatic line wrapping.

I am still working with Notepad for HTML code and HotMetal Pro for text paragraphs.

Ohh ... before I forget ... it had a problem with file locks. Disturbing, when you want to see a preview with your external browser.

I was looking to speed up mail management as I am tired of reading all subjects in order to decide whether it is spam or not.

I decided to download and try MailWasher as it was recommended on the MS website.

The setup and installation was straight forward and easy. The program learned everything except passwords from my mail program.

First I learned that it was important to read how MailWasher works. If you don't, MailWasher and your Mail program might work concurrently.

Now it was impressive to see MailWasher in action and flag messages as "Known Spam", "Possible Spam", "Friend" etc.

But now what?

I still have to read every subject and make a decision. That's no advantage at all. I didn't find a way to make MailWasher delete at least "Known Spam" automatically to reduce the subjects I have to read. Worst of all MailWasher declares Friends and accepts any mail carrying that address or domain. If you own domains or operate a website, then you know that email addresses are easily forged and you cannot trust the sender. This means that MailWasher declares all such mails as "Good", so you are still stuck with the spam.

Nice program, but useless

I would buy and use it, if it would check all emails for spam and didn't fall for forged headers and if it would let me reduce the number of subjects I have to read.
